Aluminum  |  Light, Durable and Ductile

Our metal of choice for building is Aluminum that offers a rare combination of valuable properties. It is almost three times lighter than steel but it’s also very strong, extremely flexible and corrosion resistant as its surface is always sealed by an extremely strong layer of oxide.

Welding Aluminum presents some unique challenges compared to welding steel. During the welding process, heat is transferred into the aluminum, causing it to expand, which can result in an uneven or irregular surface. This is undesirable, as the hull surface must be as fair and smooth as possible. Unlike many steel and aluminum vessels, we do not have the luxury of applying hundreds of kilograms of filler to achieve a smooth finish. This is where the true quality of the builders becomes evident. Only the most skilled welders understand how to handle the material properly and control the heat input to prevent irregularities caused by thermal distortion.

Aluminum doesn’t catch fire, it doesn’t need special paint and unlike GRP hulls it is not considered ‘chemical waste’.  Both Aluminum and its alloys can be melted down and reused without any detriment to its mechanical properties. About 75% of all Aluminum produced since the Aluminum industry started, is still in use today!

Artisanal carpentry and joinery

At Deep Water Yachts, we take pride in handcrafting every boat from raw aluminum, wood, and carefully selected materials. This artisanal approach ensures that no two vessels are ever alike. Each joint is carefully cut and fitted, each surface hand-finished. The result is an interior that feels both timeless and uniquely tailored: warm, functional, and seamlessly integrated into the vessel itself.

In contrast, typical production GRP boats rely on prefabricated interiors that are built separately, lowered into the hull, and sealed in place once the deck is glued on. While efficient, this method wastes valuable interior volume and often results in a less refined finish.

Our philosophy is different. Each aluminum hull is constructed as a complete structure, including deck and superstructure, and every interior element is built by hand directly inside the hull. Working against the trusses allows us to use every centimeter of available space, transforming it into functional living and storage areas. The result is not only a larger interior volume but also an interior that follows the graceful lines of the hull more precisely—creating a timeless, classic, and truly nautical atmosphere.

Maintenance Friendly

The hull is carefully sanded after which a hard oxide layer develops that protects the underlying metal. The superstructure is covered in an Awlgrip paint system or 3M film. The deck is synthetic teak or cork. These features make the boats maintenance friendly as they only need a wash down from time to time.

Built for harsh conditions

Built in aluminium under the demanding CE-A category, our yachts are rugged, seaworthy and self supporting to brace harsh oceanic conditions, while at the same time provide the shallow draught needed for exploring inland waterways, tidal inlets or even dry out on a mudflat.

With Aluminium as our building material of choice, the Korvets are durable, strong and maintenance friendly. The hull and construction require no paint system as the Aluminium creates a protective oxide coating.
